The fourth of seven children born to Pastor George Whitman and his wife Jean, Singer-Songwriter Becki Bice grew up in a home that established a legacy of love, faithful service to God and a determination to never, ever quit. With a mother, who was an accomplished musician in her own right, and a father with a rich voice that required no amplification, the family was never without music. They sang together always and everywhere, in the home, in the car and in church, learning to harmonize and gaining confidence in sharing music with others.
Becki has been writing and singing her songs since her teenage years. Possibly her first recordings, now lost to posterity, were cassettes of her music recorded on a small portable cassette recorder and sent to her older brother while he was serving in Vietnam. Throughout her life she has used her recognized talent ministering to those around her through music in various church, high school, college, seminars and retreat venues.
In addition to raising her three daughters, her main focus has always been serving the Lord through the local church and related Christian ministries. She has ministered as a soloist in many differing settings, directed local church choirs and been involved with numerous groups and ensembles, always encouraging others to use their gifts for Jesus. Although at times very difficult, she never gave up her songwriting – often experienced as the Lord’s way of ministering to her own need – and continued to pray for the Lord to provide a way for her to reach more for Him through the music He had given her.
